RAMOSE “DRESSING THE DIVINE”
“Dressing the Divine” is an event to
congratulate, thank, honor and award the efforts of BBMP street workers.
“No work is
insignificant, all labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and
should be undertaken with painstaking excellence”
“If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep
streets even as a Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or
Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of
heaven and earth will pause to say, ‘Here lived a great street sweeper who did
his job well.”

Problems faced by Pourakarmikas
The
BBMP workers are not employed permanently by the BBMP. They are hired through contractors who treat them badly.
They do not enjoy any benefits from the government. Their wages are
unscientific and are not paid regularly by the pay date. Small agitation turned
the famed “Garden city” to “Garbage City”. Working in unhygienic conditions,
working overtime due to shortage of workers, improper co-ordination between
governments and contractors have all made life tough for the pourakarmikas.
RAMOSE INITIATIVE
In
an attempt to make the pourakarmikas feel better, the concept of “DRESSING THE DIVINE” was visualized. It
consists of the following activities.
1.
The
event takes place in a public arena, mostly parks.
2.
The
pourakarmikas are the chief guests.
3.
A
talk to express our thoughts about their efforts, sacrifices and their
importance.
4.
Award
them with “usable” clothes and gifts
The
event takes place round the year in various wards.
